When it comes to Burberry, the first thing that springs to mind is that house check. And for good reason — it’s one of the most iconic style codes in fashion. Then, of course, comes the outerwear, with pieces like those famous trench coats regarded as the benchmark.

For AW21, Riccardo Tisci celebrates both of those, honouring the fashion house’s heritage while taking it in a contemporary direction. Burberry’s famous gabardine fabric — first invented in 1879 — is given a rework, with a lighter, more compact version adopted for use on puffers and quilted jackets. Furthering the unconventional approach, jackets are cut to relaxed fits and detailed with oversized features, like hoods, quilting and that famous check pattern.
