Liam Hodges AW19: Mutations in the 4th Dimension

Taking you to the 4th Dimension, Liam Hodges latest collection offers a mutated impression of future-past.

Inspired by a desire to evaluate hyperreality and elucidate the erosion of real, lived lives, Liam Hodges' collection for AW19, "Mutations in the 4th Dimension" showcases an impression of the future-past, of a world where online life is IRL and authenticity is outdated. Analysing anxieties about a changing world, the London-based designer's approach posits the notion that perhaps the future we were promised has arrived and in some ways surpassed anything we could imagine.

Combining Hodges' penchant for eye-catching graphic prints with his instantly recognisable sportswear sensibility, the collection offers a unique take on contemporary menswear that proudly wears its influences and inspirations on its sleeve. Shaking off the ever-present desire for perfection proliferated by social media stresses, the London label offers a compelling antidote through his signature lens of meta-modernist sincerity. Featuring roughly hewn patches, irregular stripes, distorted graphic prints, asymmetrical patchworks and in-your-face slogans, "Mutations in the 4th Dimension" showcases the freedom and beauty of individuality.

Consisting of a variety of wardrobe staples, Hodges serves up a plethora of casual garments imbued with the collection's overarching point of view. Knitted striped sweatshirts, bomber jackets and work trousers cultivate a low-key sense of style, while graphic tees inspired by the Korean artist Lee Bul instil a cyber-punk attitude. Bivouacking between far flung futurism and vintage aesthetics, Liam Hodges' AW19 collection is complete with the designer's latest collaborative output. Teaming up with Italian sportswear legends, Ellesse, Hodges is inspired by classic skiing apparel, displaying his signature injection of athletic stylisation.
