Sneaker Style Report | Milan Men's AW20

Offering a daring juxtaposition to the home of tailoring's sartorial elegance, cult sneakers reigned supreme on the streets of Milan this season.

The European hub of elegant sartorial aesthetics and sophisticated style, Milan has cultivated its status as a leading figure in the contemporary fashion universe over the course of the past century. Brimming with history and displaying a deft ability to negotiate the myriad of zeitgeist defining trends, Milan continues to celebrate its heritage with an eclectic mix of visual sensibilities. Accompanying the plethora of esoteric looks on display outside the city's menswear presentations, an equally varied distillation of sneaker styles were on show.

As popular as ever, Nike continues to dominate street style with their technical sportswear approach and high profile collaborations. In Milan, the Beaverton label's Air Max Plus III and Air Max 270 Bowfin ensured the Max Air legacy was kept alive, while a vintage pair of Waffle Trainers in the OG blue and yellow combination offered up a welcome blast from the past.

Balenciaga's now-classic chunky Track Sneaker offered a boost of luxury appeal to proceedings, delivering a bold and unforgettable combination of outdoor appeal and oversized styling, complete with a subtle black, red and yellow colouration across the intricately layered uppers. Collaborations maintained their status as a defining aspect of the contemporary sneaker's epoch, with ASICS' collaboration with Awake NY, Converse's sought-after collaborations with ASAP Nast and AMBUSH, and New Balance's luminous Aries sneaker all making an appearance. A star studded line-up that truly showcased the diversity of sneaker styles on offer, Milan certainly proved its dedication to the cutting edge.
