Jun Takahashi, the creative director of Undercover continues the collaboration between his subversive Japanese brand and sportswear giant Nike. Takahashi takes the Daybreak – an iconic ‘70s running sneaker – and sends it into the stratosphere, adding space age touches that make it fit for another planet. This pair is comprised of a jade green, clay grey and bright red palette, and in staying true to the original Daybreak toebox, Takahashi lulls unsuspecting viewers into a false sense of security. This is not a normal shoe, however; at the back, geometric shapes and spaceship vibes abound, with a pitch black heel panel bordered by a jutting green speckled shell. The red leather Swoosh is unceremoniously chopped in half, while the shoe sits on dramatically shaped paint-flecked foam midsoles and supportive rubber outsoles.
