Nike’s experimental ISPA division really stands by the four defining principles that make up its name – improvise, scavenge, protect and adapt – and they’re immediately clear with the Flow. It’s inspired by the ‘gram shavers’ – the hardcore runners who look to save weight wherever possible to get the most marginal of performance gains. As such, it’s light and breathable. Seriously light. Seriously breathable.
The open weave, mono mesh uppers ensure efficient air flow around the foot, and that theme continues through the sole, too. There are holes across the outsole, inspired by the early-2000s Air Kukini – the sneaker developed with Iron Man triathlete Mark Allen who complained of water pooling inside when pouring a cup over himself to cool off. On the Flow, they react the same way, while also allowing for the efficient movement of air to keep your feet cooler.
