Since being founded in 2011, Gentle Monster has been centred heavily around experimentalism, creating contemporary frames that follow a design agenda ranging from extraordinary to the understated. This season, Gentle Monster partners with Moncler Genius for the first time, creating an expansive collection, including both eyewear and apparel, that channels this cutting-edge creative vision.
The collection is heavily inspired by digital culture, with a particular emphasis on the ubiquity of swiping in the digital sphere: emotions, instant gratification and approval in the online world. Eyewear, puffer jackets and jersey pieces are all constructed with reference to this overarching theme; frames, for instance, employ swiping mechanisms as closures, with Moncler logos elongated to look as if they have been swiped over. The apparel remains subtle in terms of colour, with monochrome black featuring throughout the collection, though intricate detailing and bold silhouettes add to the refined, yet dramatic, aesthetic of the capsule.
