Long before he launched a fashion label, Willy Chavarria was fascinated by the way clothing brings people together. As a child attending Mass, he would sketch the women in their veils and the men in their pressed shirts, beginning to understand that what we wear can communicate identity, belonging and community.
Born in California to a Mexican American father and an Irish American mother, Chavarria grew up navigating the complexities of cultural assimilation, discrimination and Chicano identity. Those experiences would later become central to his work.
Since founding his namesake label in 2015, Chavarria has used fashion as a vehicle for storytelling, weaving together Latino heritage, Chicano street culture and powerful social commentary. Through emotionally charged runway shows and a steadfast commitment to themes of unity, dignity and representation, he has become one of fashion's most important voices. For Chavarria, clothing is never just clothing. The label has grown into a platform to uplift those who need it most: people of colour, queer people, trans people and women.
