NEW MUSIC SPOTLIGHT | 10.01.22

Shining a light on some of the hottest new music to drop over the course of the past week, END. select their top five musical moments for your listening pleasure.

THE WEEKND – “DAWN FM”
With his fifth studio album, “Dawn FM”, the Weeknd centres the entire project around a fictional, retro-pop radio station. It’s a conceptualisation that permeates every corner of the 16-track piece, ranging from the narrated interludes by Jim Carrey to the upbeat, ‘80s synth pop-inspired sound prevalent throughout the album.
GUNNA – “DS4EVER"
Gunna’s latest project, “DS4EVER”, marks the fourth instalment in the artist’s Drip Season series that began in 2016. The 19-track album, which features contributions from Kodak Black, Young Thug and Lil Baby, leans in on the Atlanta rapper’s signature trap sound, combining melodic rhymes with percussion-heavy instrumentals.
EARL SWEATSHIRT – “TITANIC”
With Earl Sweatshirt’s upcoming album “Sick!” set to release later this month, the rapper further teases the anticipated project with “Titanic”. The track sees the artist partner with Detroit producer Black Noi$e, combining his usual sharp lyricism with a fast paced and trap-leaning instrumental.
SOICHI TERADA – "ASAKUSA LIGHT"
Japanese deep house pioneer Soichi Terada releases his first full-length album in over 25 years, titled “Asakusa Light”. Across the 11-track piece, the coveted artist channels that warm and atmospheric sound synonymous with his body of work from the ‘90s, utilising the very same synthesizers and drum machines from those earlier projects.
BURIAL – “ANTIDAWN”
With Burial’s latest EP, “Antidawn”, the elusive artist delves further into his immersive and eclectic sound. The five-track project retains the haze and eeriness we’ve come to expect from the producer, only things are taken in a much more abstract and ambient direction than previous releases.
