On was founded with a defining goal: to change the way the world runs. Born in Switzerland and powered by precision engineering, the brand turns ambitious ideas into reality. Here’s everything you need to know, from the tech that’s revolutionising movement to the cult-favourite silhouettes dominating the podiums, and the story that started it all.
Whether you're discovering On for the first time or deepening your knowledge further, we’ve answered the most-asked questions to help you unearth its story.
Everything began in the Swiss Alps in 2010. Retired triathlete Olivier Bernhard set out to disrupt the performance footwear industry, trying to find a way to bring a totally new sensation to running. His early experiments were as unconventional as his vision, strapping pieces of garden hose to prototypes, chasing the feeling of running on clouds.
Joined by friends David Allemann and Caspar Coppetti, the On team picked up pace in their pursuit for perfection. Right from the start, they set the bar high: to create the highest performing shoe ever made. That relentless drive proved fruitful, leading to the introduction of CloudTec® — a cushioning system that changed the game and put On on the map for good.
On’s global headquarters is based in Zurich, Switzerland, though it has a global presence with other locations in Berlin, Portland, Shanghai and Melbourne.
The On philosophy is “to ignite the human spirit through movement.”
The brand believes that movement unlocks potential. And if we can move better — with effort that feels easier and performance that feels natural — progress follows. In simple terms, On seeks to create ways for athletes of all kinds to move more, recover faster and push further.
On is best known for its running shoes, but the lineup goes way beyond that. There’s an On sneaker for every form of movement, whether you’re tackling the trail, hiking, playing tennis, or just spending a lot of time on your feet day-to-day. And while sneakers may snap up all the headlines, On also offers a full range of apparel: gym-ready shorts, lightweight jackets for windy runs, sweat-wicking leggings, and plenty more to keep you moving in total comfort.

On’s revolutionary technologies are what really sets it apart. CloudTec® was very much the first of its kind, built to compress both horizontally and vertically to deliver strides that are more efficient, more cushioned, and more supported.
Behind the scenes, the brand’s world-class team of scientists and engineers in Zurich is constantly pushing boundaries, taking ideas once considered impossible and turning them into reality. It’s the restless pursuit of improvement, the confidence to break the mould and the constant experimentation that makes On a cut above the rest. Pull on a pair of On sneakers, and you can feel it.
You’ll find the latest On footwear and apparel for men and women right here at END. From performance running shoes and trail-ready sneakers to everyday lifestyle styles and technical apparel, our curated On collection is the best place to shop.
Don’t know your Missiongrip™ from your GuardTec™? We’ve decoded On’s ground-breaking innovations, from tech that keeps you stable on the trails to the secret weapons powering athletes to new heights. This is your guide to exactly what makes On so special.
If we’re talking On innovation, there’s only one place to start: CloudTec®. Not only is it what the brand is best known for, but it’s the tech that started it all. Faithfully replicating the feeling of “running on clouds”, it’s meticulously engineered to improve running efficiency by absorbing energy on impact, driving powerful take-offs and adapting to the unique stride of the wearer. The segmented midsole is designed to compress both horizontally and vertically, cushioning exactly where it should without sacrificing stability and support.
This is CloudTec® in its smoothest form. Using a specialist computer software, the lab team optimised the shape, size and alignment of each Cloud segment, creating a sequentially collapsing midsole that guides your stride from heel strike to toe-off. Styles such as the Cloudtilt, Cloudeclipse and Cloudsurfer Max are built with revolutionary CloudTec Phase™ cushioning.
Helion™ is the superfoam that works alongside CloudTec® to supercharge your run. When the On Lab team couldn’t find a foam that could deliver the kind of cushioning and propulsion that they needed, they set out to make their own. The first of its kind, it brings stable and flexible elements into one single material, offering smoother, faster strides — especially on road surfaces.
Put in the same amount of effort as usual but get a maximised energy return with speedier strides? Speedboard® makes that possible. Built with just enough flexibility to bend as you run, it transforms the energy that you generate into momentum that drives you forwards. As a result, you can run faster, longer and further. The Speedboard® can be slightly adapted for different movement needs, with small tweaks in shape, thickness and curve serving unique running gaits and goals.
A staple in On’s trail running and hiking silhouettes, Missiongrip™ is an outsole that delivers powerful traction on uneven terrain. Made with a grip-rubber compound and enhanced lug patterns, it keeps you steady on loose rocks, wet surfaces and downhill trails. You’ll find it grounding strides on styles like the Cloudrock, Cloudventure, Cloudultra and Cloudvista.
LightSpray™ is On’s most radical innovation yet. Using robotics, it involves spraying 1.5km of high-performance filament directly onto a midsole to form a seamless upper in just three minutes. Without any glues or seams, it delivers a second-skin fit that’s lighter than ever and cuts CO₂ emissions by 75% compared to traditional methods. The result? The Cloudboom Strike LS, weighing only 170g and built for elite speed.
Used in On’s apparel range, DryTec™ is Swiss-engineered to keep you cool and in control. The fabric uses tiny gaps between each yarn strand to draw moisture away from the skin and move it to the surface, where it evaporates faster. That means less discomfort, more focus and longer-lasting freshness during intense workouts.
If you’re venturing into the freezing cold, look for On apparel with ThermaTec™. It’s cleverly designed to lock heat in close to the body while allowing air to pass through to regulate temperature when you need it. Whether you’re on the move or at rest, it provides powerful insulation without any unnecessary bulk to weigh you down.
GuardTec™ is On’s answer to unpredictable weather. This Swiss-engineered, three-layer membrane is fully waterproof yet breathable, with microscopic pores that let moisture escape while blocking rain completely. Add a PFA-free water-repellent finish and taped seams where it matters most, and you’ve got lightweight protection that keeps you cool, dry, and moving — whatever the conditions.
"Our fans expect bold innovation. And that's great, because, we don't have to be scared about being adventurous." - Caspar Coppetti, co-founder.
Cushioning, stability, heel-to-toe drop, pronation — there’s a lot to think about when choosing the right running shoes. To make it easier, we’ve broken down what matters most so you can pick the perfect pair of On trainers for your running style.
Whether you’re looking for explosive speed, long distance efficiency or a daily pair to gently clock up the miles, the best place to start is to consider what kind of surface you’ll be running on. Will you be tackling muddy, uneven trails, using a treadmill in the gym, or sticking to the tarmac?
Next, think about your goals and what style of running sensation will benefit you best. On running shoes fall under four main categories to suit every runner:
The last step goes without saying: try them on! Make sure to wear your running socks, and check for arch support, toe room, and flexibility. The fit should feel secure, yet natural.
The level of cushion that will work best for you while you run is generally down to your foot shape and your gait. The way you strike the ground and distribute your weight can lead to injury in the long run if you’re not wearing shoes that support you in the right places.
The easiest way to find your running gait at home is to check the wear on your running shoes. It’ll give you a pretty good idea if any areas are taking on more strain than they should. If you spot extra wear on the inside of the heel, under the ball of the foot and the big toe, it’s likely that you overpronate. If there’s lots of wear on the outside of the sole, underpronation is probably the cause.
If you have any concerns about your running gait, a medical professional, such as a podiatrist, can provide specific, expert advice regarding your individual needs.
If your feet have very flat arches, it’s likely that you’ll overpronate as you run. This means your heel can roll further inwards than it should, leading to extra stress on your knees, joints and the inside of your foot. To avoid problems like shin splints, hip pain, achilles tendinitis, or heel spurs, go for stability-focused shoes like the supportive Cloudrunner, Cloudstratus or Cloudflyer.
If you have very high arches, this can put a lot of stress on the outside of your feet and your smaller toes, causing your foot to roll outwards on impact. The result is poorer shock absorption which may trigger injuries like shin splints, plantar fasciitis, and bunions. If this sounds like you, cushioning is your best friend! It can help you give you the additional support you need and help reduce outward rolling. Opt for plush models like the Cloudswift and the Cloudspark.
Neutral runners distribute weight evenly with every strike, meaning shock absorption-related injuries are less likely to occur. When your foot lands, it follows an S-shaped pattern from the outer heel to the big toe to support your body weight effectively. Neutral runners can opt for pretty much any running shoe that best suits their needs. For balanced cushioning, flexibility and responsiveness, On has a whole host of options: the Cloudboom Strike, Cloudeclipse, Cloudflow, Cloudstratus, Cloudsurfer Next and Cloudmonster Hyper.
Finding the right pair of shoes isn’t always easy — especially when your days are packed with marathon training, gym sessions, or hours on your feet. To make things simpler, we’ve rounded up some of On’s key styles, so you can pick the perfect pair for whatever’s on your schedule.

Getting the right fit and keeping your On gear in top shape makes all the difference. Here, you’ll find sizing tips to help you choose the perfect On shoes and apparel, plus easy care advice to keep them performing at their best.
As a general rule, On shoes fit true to size. Especially if you’re opting for a pair designed for everyday use, you’re good to select your usual size. Your feet may swell a little if you’re running, so going half a size bigger than your daily shoes is always a good idea to give a little extra room in the toebox. It is also recommended that you go half a size up in On’s waterproof range, as these tend to fit a little tighter due to the waterproof fabrics used.
You’ll find a size guide on each style on END. to help you make your decision.
There’s no one-size-fits-all answer, it depends on factors like your running style, weight, and the surfaces you train on. Most running shoes last around 300 miles (roughly 482 km), though this can vary by model and materials. High-performance options like the Cloudboom Strike are built for explosive speed on race day, so they’ll naturally wear out faster than everyday styles such as the Cloud 6.
The primary difference is that men’s styles are slightly wider. However, don’t feel restricted to a certain gender! The different styles can all be worn by men or women. Just be sure to check the size guide before you purchase. If you need to order a couple of sizes to try, no problem — END. offers free returns.
Keeping your On shoes clean helps them perform better and last longer. Skip the washing machine and tumble dryer; heat and detergents can damage seams and structure. Instead, brush off dirt after each run, and when a deeper clean is needed, hand wash with warm water and mild detergent. Remove laces and insoles first, rinse thoroughly, and let them air dry at room temperature with paper inside to maintain shape. Once dry, reassemble and you’re good to hit the road again.
Certain models are available in wide fits, which will be specified in the listing.
On is committed to building a fair and inclusive future, driving progress on circularity and renewable materials. The brand is committed to reducing its footprint, while prioritising the well-being of its people, partners, and communities. It recognises that these challenges aren’t simple, but rising to them is integral to the brand’s mission of defending everyone’s right to move and always striving for better.
Cyclon™is On’s first step towards full-fledged circularity. This award-winning initiative uses bio-based, renewable materials (e.g. PA-11, made from castor beans) to create shoes and apparel that will eventually be recycled and transformed into brand new products.
How does it work? The buyer enters a subscription with On rather than making a one-time purchase. Once the shoes are worn-out and ready to be replaced, you send them back in return for a brand new pair. The old shoes are shredded, mixed with leftover materials from manufacturing, and combined to create something new. The cycle continues; ensuring nothing goes to waste.
The Cyclon™ range includes the Cloudrise Cyclon 1.1, the Cloudrise Cyclon, the Cloudeasy Cyclon and the Cloudneo — and with this sustainable subscription, you can try them all!

Through these partnerships, On champions inclusion and defends the universal right to move.
Onward is a trade-in platform that promotes re-use and stands against throwaway culture. On will accept any used product (as long as it’s clean and in great condition) and will either re-sell it, recycle it or donate it.
