Moncler—short for Monestier‑de‑Clermont, a small mountain village near Grenoble—began in 1952 when René Ramillon and André Vincent started creating gear built for real Alpine conditions. Their early output was purely functional: quilted sleeping bags, lined hooded capes, and durable tents made for high‑altitude workers who needed protection above all else. That technical mindset became the backbone of Moncler men’s design long before the brand entered the luxury space.

What began as utility gradually evolved into a refined performance aesthetic. The mountain DNA never left; it simply adapted.
