AN EVENING WITH SAM PEARCE PRESENTED BY CAKENOTCRUMBS AT END. MANCHESTER

To mark the fourth instalment in END. Talks, we invited Sam Pearce, New Balance Made in UK Creative Designer Manager, to our Manchester store for an in-depth discussion with CakeNotCrumbs.

To mark the next instalment in END. Talks, an ongoing series where we invite prominent cultural figures for in-depth discussions at our stores, we invited New Balance Made in UK Creative Design Manager, Sam Pearce, to our Manchester store. The evening represented a celebration of Made in UK and its milestone 40th anniversary, with Sam sitting down for an in-depth discussion with CakeNotCrumbs, New Balance aficionado and END.’s Social Media and Community Manager.

The evening kickstarted with Sam delving into his introduction into the industry, discussing his path from being a yacht cabinet maker out of school to studying footwear design, prior to starting his career with New Balance in 2011. This was then followed by a discussion surrounding Sam’s approach to design, covering topics ranging from predicting future sneaker trends, to balancing comfort, function and aesthetics when designing a shoe. In light of the Made in UK line's 40th anniversary, Sam delved into the importance of upholding premium domestic craft and how the legendary Flimby factory champions this, as well as the innovations that may help to shape the future of New Balance Made in UK.

The discussion closed with Sam providing advice to the students and up-and-coming designers in attendance, delving into the importance they hold for shaping the future path of the industry. The evening also included refreshments and food for the audience in attendance, with a buffet provided by Manchester natives, Pot Kettle Black.
