When adidas approached Yohji Yamamoto at the start of the millennium, the result wasn't simply another collaboration. It was an entirely new proposition. Launched in 2002, Y-3 challenged long-held assumptions about what sportswear could be, bringing together adidas' performance expertise and Yamamoto's distinctive approach to shape, proportion and movement.

More than two decades on, the formula remains as compelling as ever. While countless brands have since explored the space between sport and fashion, Y-3 continues to occupy territory of its own. Technical fabrics, oversized silhouettes and an almost instinctive use of black have become signatures, reflecting Yamamoto's belief that clothing should move with the body rather than restrict it.

From footwear and outerwear to everyday wardrobe staples, every collection carries that perspective. Not quite performance wear, not quite luxury fashion, Y-3 exists in the space between the two. And twenty years later, the rest of the industry is still catching up.
