It began when coach Bill Bowerman and athlete Philip Knight started importing Japanese sneakers under the name Blue Ribbon Sports. Or, for a dose of b-ball heritage, take the Air Force 1 for a spin. Designed by Bruce Kilgore, this hoops icon debuted in 1982 as the first basketball shoe to feature Air cushioning. This signature style was co-opted by the early ‘00s hip-hop scene, with Nelly’s ‘Air Force Ones’ cementing its legacy.
