Maison Margiela is a luxury haute couture house founded on ideas of nonconformity by Belgian

designer Martin Margiela in 1988. The brand embraces creativity rooted in authenticity,

community, and self-expression, focusing on the relationship between clothes and how they are

worn. Now under the creative direction of Glenn Martens, the Artisanal atelier challenges tradition

by reinterpreting and repurposing past elements into new forms. This process creates a dialogue

between past and present, emphasizing individuality and authenticity.

The eponymous label showcases a range of different lines, from Maison Margiela women’s clothing, to menswear, fragrances, small leather goods and more. Famous designs include its Tabi toe boot, which is inspired by 15th century Japan, where wooden platform sandals with a strap between the toe were the footwear of choice. The silhouette made its runway debut in Margiela’s SS89 runway show and is still a fan-favourite today.
