John Elliott Presents a Personal Vision of Los Angeles for SS19

Elucidating his relationship with the metropolis, the City of Angels serves as John Elliott's muse this season

Telling the story of Los Angeles through his personal relationship with the metropolis, Angeleno designer John Elliott offers an impression of the city far from the glamourised image of Hollywood. Clean-cut and street-ready, Elliott fuses his trademark athletic inspirations with an effortless sense of louche cool, capturing the modern and easy-going attitude the City of Angels embodies.

Elliott's combination of classic hooded sweatshirts, stonewashed denim and raw edged jersey tees offer a casual aesthetic that calls to mind the finer moments of rest and relaxation. Comfortable and low-key, the critically lauded label has perfected the art of subtlety. Focussing on specific moments in his own life John Elliott transcribes serendipitous instances into his design practice. Sun bleached denim and colour bleeding inspired by personal mishaps induce a feeling of beauty in the everyday and the accidental. Turning the personal into the public, Elliott imbues his collection with a distinctly relatable quality.

Utilising a muted colour palette, interjected with sudden twists of colour, the SS19 collection is inspired by the tones of the natural world. Rich blue hues replicate the oceanic swells of the Pacific, while a red and green vacation shirt and short set draws inspiration from the city's wealth of bougainvillea - planted alongside the freeway in a bid to elevate the concrete runways with a flourish of natural beauty.
