At Undercover, Jun Takahashi evidences a fascination with subcultures, exploring subversive fashion sects in new and unexpected ways. It makes sense, then, that Takahashi has an ongoing relationship with Dr Martens, the British bootmaker that has shod the feet of underground movements for generations. This October, the designer puts his spin on the 1461, Dr Martens’ classic 3-eyelet shoe. Crafted in England from black patent leather, it sits on a Goodyear-welted sole trimmed with the brand’s iconic yellow stitching and features subtle messages etched into the uppers – swirling font that spells out ‘Chaos’ on one toe and ‘Balance’ on the other, and, at the heel, a debossed phrase – ‘We make noise not clothes’ – that correlates with the punk ethos of both brands.
