Kim Jones’ vision for Dior Homme remains faithful to decades of couture heritage, but he isn’t afraid to re-work archival house codes. Fall 2020’s collection encapsulates that.
He brings Shawn Stüssy — independent of his eponymous surf label — out of retirement to collaborate on the line, which intersects the House’s renowned savoir-faire and Floridian subcultural aesthetics. It’s sportswear, but tailored. Formalwear, but fun.
Wavy, flower-punctuated interpretations of Dior’s letter logo are quintessential Stüssy and call back to ‘60s psychedelia. They’re scrawled like graffiti on everything from suits and shirting to knits and hats, using both tonal palettes and tropical ones which channel the vibrancy of Miami’s Art Deco architecture. Hedi Slimane’s Bee motif makes a comeback, too, only it’s punked up with crossbones in the style of logo-heavy skate gear.
Away from the world of skating, Jones explores athletic influences further with his first ever Nike Jordan release. The AJ1 in question is brimming with label signatures: Italian craftsmanship, luxe Dior Grey leather and an Oblique-monogrammed Swoosh.
