New Balance x Auralee MSPDRAG SpeedriftOlive

Ryota Iwai’s label Auralee is renowned for its textile experimentation and colour expertise; it uses these two defining principles to create a new, fashion-forward version of the New Balance FuelCell Speedrift. It’s a contrast to the previous collaborative sneakers, which were based on archival models, but the Auralee inclusion is immediately clear.

A soft pistachio green covers the entirety. It deviates in tone on each component, thanks to the different materials used, but it’s still a refined palette. That’s not to say the tech is absent, though. The uppers are made from a three-layer composite – the outermost being a semi-transparent ripstop – which shows off a depth to the green hue, while the sole unit makes use of the Boston-based label’s latest FuelCell technology. It’s a perfect marrying of form and function, and one that celebrates the core values of each partner.
