Levi’s Vintage Clothing throws it all the way back to 1971 this year, celebrating the year that saw that transition from the big ‘E’ to the small ‘e’ red tab with a limited run of these true-to-the-year 501s. A traditional shrink-to-fit pair made from 12oz Cone Mills White Oak selvedge denim, they’ll develop a beautiful patina exclusive to you through heavy wear.

The main point of interest, however, is that familiar red tab on the back – only this time, it’s shrouded in gold foil. Once scratched off, the iconic red tab reveals itself in one of two guises – five pairs of the 501 produced have the collector’s dream, a big ‘E’ red tab, hidden underneath while the other 496 come fitted with the more familiar small ‘e’. The only way of knowing is to unwrap the foil. Will you be one of the lucky few?
