Nike’s on a journey to zero waste and zero carbon, and part of that is finding the beauty in, well, trash. If there’s one thing the Beaverton brand is good at, though, it’s innovating, turning what may be garbage to some into the Space Hippie 01. It’s crafted from 50 percent recycled materials by weight, featuring a sock-like Space Waste Yarn upper that’s around 90 percent repurposed tees, plastic bottles and thread waste. Down below, things are just as eco-conscious. ZoomX foam scraps — the same you’ll find in the NEXT% runners — form the insole, while Nike Grind rubber cut-offs add stability to the Crater Foam Midsole.
